Mission activities

Our activities, what are we doing here?

·         Prayer times
Two times a day, we organise prayers in the spirit of Taizé. The morning prayer is at our house, the cosario, and the evening prayer in parishes. The doors are opened, for everybody is welcome.

·         Visits in the prison of Almeria
Father Manolo is the chaplain of the jail since seven years,
where he goes every day. We accompany him a few times a week.
For example we sing along with the choir consisting of inmates that practices for the Saturday’s mass of the prison’s church. We rehearse the songs with the choir, there are also Taizé songs. These moments are also times for meeting and sharing.
Other chaplain activities are for example a reflexion group with the youth organised by sisters of a congregation. In which they with the support of a text have a moment to turn eyes towards their lives, express what they want and need, a moment of deeply sharing and spirituality.
Being in presence to share that with them is a gift for us.

·         Playing with children and assisting them with their studies
With Carmen and Mila (see our Spanish family), we go to the peripheries, to take time playing with children. There are very poor quarters in the area of Vicar. Parents often work all the day in the greenhouses and the children, after school, are alone in these areas. With what joy, simplicity and gratitude we were welcomed by them… Isn’t that the kind of heart Jesus advices us to cultivate?
We welcome the local children also in the cosario, our house, to help them with their homework and to do crafts with younger children.

·
Spanish classes for adults
In the parish of Antonio and Manolo also classes to learn Spanish are organised for the adult immigrants that arrive here. Some of them first have to learn how to write as well. We for example assist in these classes by helping them to write and pronounce the letters and words.
